Life is not easy for anybody. Not even the rich, most privileged or the most successful. Everyone has to go through struggles, survive them and find happiness. It is often said the grass should not be judged from a far fence as one does not know what is going on, on the other side of it. Same is the case with humans. A kind word or gesture always helps because you don’t know what a person is going through even when they are smiling.

When Brooke Sevigny was in high school studying production and design she was diagnosed with a rare lung disease. By the time she was 16 years of age she was getting biweekly transfusions while her school life kept moving ahead. Everything exhausted her so much that her body as well as her relationship with peers suffered. She was not able to keep up with the studies.

But Brooke was not willing to give up so she worked harder and pushed hard thus securing a graduation a year earlier than expected. Her doctors were able to save her life. She was happy but also a realization hit her. Her privilege, her access to good healthcare bought her back from death.

She would have definitely lost her life in case she didn’t have access to such good doctors and treatments. Thus after finishing her high school, Brooke Sevigny decided to work with her doctor to help the underprivileged patients and their families who are facing rare diseases and financial problems.
